EuroNews : Israel pounds Lebanon's Bekaa Valley

The Two Sides Of The Bekaa Valley

My column on Sunday in the Sunday Business Post will try and see the unasked for violence on both sides of the border by winemakers and vineyard owners who are caught up in the fighting.

I had hoped that Bekaa would remain untargeted by alas the Israeli targeting is now striking into the ancient heart of the Lebanese wine business. We are only a few weeks away from the harvest there (remember it is hotter than Bordeaux, Tuscany et al !!) so this must be now seen as an attack on that infrastructure too.

Peggy Clancy

On Monday the 26th of June 2006, my mother, Peggy Clancy died after the most astoundingly dignified and hard battle with cancer. She was anxious to absorb and comment on everything in the world to her last. I miss her in every way.

Champagne Roederer Cristal Boycott declared over Racist Comments by New Head of Roederer

AllHipHop.com : Rumors

Another spectacular own goal, all he had to say was NOTHING, but of course the truth is that the french wine business is a VERY white business so I think Jay Z is not far off the mark, at all.

However watch Roederer try and spin their way out of this...and boy will they be trying.

Hamas Anti Israeli Wine Action Bears Fruit In Sweden

EJP | News | Israeli wine labelled as coming from 'occupied territory'

The Swedish State monopoly placed the phrase occupied territory instead of Golan or Yardan AC status on the label. However it has relented after considerable political pressure.

It would certainly open up a lot of possibilities, how about some concerned Western Nations re-label efforts on wine from China or the TRUE French feeling about Napa Valley...!!!

Ely Wine Bar Dublin Ireland, restaurant, city centre

Ely Wine Bar Dublin Ireland, restaurant, city centre

I think this Dublin institution has become a real star on the irish wine scene as others come and check it out and copy, i mean are influenced by its format...and its recovery from fire damage was amazingly quick HOWEVER, after several recent trips i think the policy of letting the inert gas system go and relying on fridge and vacuvin type solutions is not serving the wines or the customers as well as the gas system did.

Frankly it has ruled out Ely as a by the glass bar for me from now on. Full bottles frshly openned it is. Which is nice, but means they have left a weakness in their flank that others can and will exploit.
